Prior to starting Ishida Builders in 2007, I had spent the last 10 years refining skills as a carpenter with a fine eye for details. I started out in the industry as a 16 year old teenager serving a sentence of 200 hours of community service for putting my name in wet cement at a public park in Brisbane, CA. Forced to work for free all summer long, I met a carpenter/contractor who owned a boat that was docked at the marina and needed help with some restoration projects he had planned. Over the course of the next two years I worked weekends at the marina learning about wood and all the different tools that are involved in transforming a piece of timber to a deck board or a piece of a ships hull. By my first summer out of high school I was working full time as carpenter in San Francisco doing small residential remodels. The following year I took a job working for a larger construction company in San Francisco that specialized in high end residential remodels and custom cabinetry. For the next four years I worked in some of the finest homes San Francisco has to offer. We did everything from building forms for new foundations and framing to installing intricate crown moldings and custom cabinetry. Not only did we install the cabinets but when we were slow they would send me to the shop where I learned the ins and outs of how to build custom cabinets. In 2006 I decided it was time for the next step and signed up for classes at a local contracting school. I took my test, passed the first time around and have been serving the San Francisco peninsula ever since. I have built my company on 3 key principles.
